The new facility will be built on INVISTA’a Sakra site adjacent to the company’s existing adipic acid plant, which will improve the energy efficiency of the unit. Construction will begin immediately and is expected to be complete by mid-2009. The facility has been designed to meet 100% of the adipic acid plant’s needs for nitric acid.
“This new nitric acid facility will strengthen our long term supply situation for nitric acid, helping us to better meet our customer’s needs and to significantly strengthen the competitiveness of our Intermediates business in the region,” said Warren Primeaux, President, INVISTA Intermediates. “The new plant also underscores INVISTA's continuing growth in Singapore and Asia as a whole.”
The nitric acid plant is the latest in a series of Asia growth initiatives that INVISTA has embarked on in the past 12 months. These initiatives include new manufacturing plants for spandex and nylon 6,6 airbag fibers, a new nylon 6,6 intermediates and polymer complex, and acquisition of a nylon carpet fiber plant.
Welcoming INVISTA’s continued commitment to Singapore, Ms Aw Kah Peng, Assistant Managing Director of EDB said: “INVISTA is a valued partner of Singapore and has a significant presence here. This new plant, which is tightly integrated with your existing operation, will strengthen the competitiveness of INVISTA's base here. We thank INVISTA for your longstanding commitment to and confidence in Singapore, and look forward to strengthening our partnership in the future."
